Colonel A Grech was born in Birkirkara, Malta on 15 December 1948.

He was educated at the Lyceum Grammer School and the University of Malta. He was commissioned in the Regular Force of the Armed Forces of Malta in the rank of Lieutenant on 1 May 1976 after serving over two-and-a-half years in a Military Auxiliary Corps.

He attended his officer basic military training in Malta. He held appointments of Adjutant of an Auxiliary Military Corps, Unit Adjutant, Company Officer Commander, Unit Second-in-Command and Staff Officer Information Technology and Personnel.

 

 

 


He was promoted to the rank of Colonel on 1 Sep 1997 and appointed Colonel General Staff at Headquarters AFM in Dec 97. During 1998 he additionally held the appointment of acting Deputy Commander AFM.

He formed part of the Malta's Delegation at the OSCE Annual Implementation and Assessment Meetings (AIAMs) of 1998, 1999, 2000 and at the OSCE Review Conference on the Code of Conduct in 1999.

He was decorated with the Long & Efficient Service Medal in March 1995 and appointed acting registrar of the National Order of Merit during 1998, and Registrar in 2004.

He was appointed as Malta's Military Representative on the EU Military Committee on 1 February 2004.

Colonel Grech is married to Madeleine and they have two sons and a daughter.

His leisure interests include electronics and Information Technology.
